Despite a slow start, the duo found their rhythm, pummeling the bowlers to accumulate 62 runs in the Powerplay. Warner, reaching his half-century off just 32 deliveries in the ninth over, seemed poised for a substantial innings before Pathirana’s heroics intervened.

Earlier in the match, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bat in Visakhapatnam. Shaw, making his first appearance of the season after being benched for the Capitals’ initial two losses, was entrusted with opening duties.

Additionally, Kuldeep Yadav was sidelined due to injury, missing out on selection for the playing XI. Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings maintained their lineup unchanged following impressive victories in the opening matches of the campaign.

The Super Kings commenced the 2024 season in stellar fashion, securing a commanding six-wicket triumph over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the season opener led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
