IPL 2024: [WATCH]- Matthew Wade Grabs A Superb Catch As Yashasvi Jaiswal Goes Out

Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s tough beginning to the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season persisted as he was sent back for 24 runs off 19 balls against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on Wednesday.

Jaiswal made a promising start during the powerplay, taking on GT’s opening bowlers Spencer Johnson and Umesh Yadav with ease, hitting boundaries effortlessly. Jaiswal registered his fifth boundary at the start of the penultimate over of the powerplay.

However, his attempt to execute a scoop shot off Umesh Yadav on the next delivery proved fatal. Although he crouched low to play the shot over the keeper’s head, the ball made contact near the shoulder and handle of his bat, leading to his downfall.

At first, it seemed possible that the ball’s pace might clear the wicketkeeper despite the suboptimal contact. However, Matthew Wade timed his leap perfectly, making a superb catch to secure GT’s first breakthrough of the evening.

The current match marks Matthew Wade’s debut in this season and his return to the IPL since the 2022 final. Shubman Gill made two changes, bringing in Wade and Abhinav Manohar, while Kane Williamson and B Sharath were left out.

Wade had a chance to dismiss RR at 42/3 at the end of the powerplay but missed a difficult catch when Riyan Parag edged a delivery from Rashid Khan.

Yashasvi Jaiswal hasn’t surpassed 24 runs in the 2024 IPL matches so far

Jaiswal kicked off his 2024 season with a 24-run innings against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) but has only managed to add 15 runs in the following three matches. This unexpected start contrasts sharply with his recent impressive form.

Having enjoyed a breakthrough IPL season in 2023 and consistently performed well for India since then, his current struggle is surprising.

At the moment, the in-form duo of Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag are at the crease, facing GT’s wrist spinners Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad. The score stands at 49/2 after seven overs in the first innings.
