In his previous five IPL games, Rohit Sharma accumulated just 34 runs, with four instances of single-digit scores. The renowned MI player was witnessed experiencing an emotional breakdown during the SRH match.
Despite Mumbai Indians’ seven-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, concerns persist about Rohit Sharma’s form in T20 cricket. Since his century against Chennai Super Kings, Rohit has struggled with his performance, raising worries among fans as India’s T20 World Cup campaign approaches in a month’s time.
Rohit’s disappointing run seems to have taken a toll on him, as he appeared disheartened in the dressing room after being dismissed for just four runs. Rohit, who was relieved of captaincy due to his declining performance with the bat in T20 cricket, scored 297 runs in his initial seven innings this season. This included a 49 against Delhi Capitals and an unbeaten 105 against CSK, both played at home.
However, in his subsequent five matches, he only mustered 34 runs, with four instances of single-digit scores. During the Mumbai Indians’ match against Sunrisers, Rohit Sharma was sent back to the pavilion by a length delivery from opposition skipper Pat Cummins.
He attempted to flick it over square leg, but his hurried shot resulted in a leading edge, sending the ball high into the sky. Wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen made an easy catch to complete the dismissal.
Rohit appeared frustrated as he left the field after yet another low score, walking back to the pavilion with his head down. Cameras later captured him looking almost teary-eyed in the MI dressing room.

If you are happy when someone cries, then humanity is dead inside you. Rohit Sharma will make a comeback once again and then you will not find a place to hide your shameless face. pic.twitter.com/vbikE3puFB

Before the match against Sunrisers, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra observed that Rohit Sharma’s loss of rhythm after a promising start to the season has raised concerns, especially with the T20 World Cup approaching.
“I am first focusing on Rohit Sharma because in the last four games – Rajasthan, Delhi, Lucknow and the last game here vs KKR – I think his highest score is probably 11. This does not go well.”
“He had a good start to the tournament, 300-325 runs were scored, struck a century as well at this ground but after that, he has just fallen off the radar. You don’t want that,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Rohit will have two additional opportunities in IPL 2024 to rediscover his form before Indian players depart for the USA. Their opening game is scheduled for June 5 against Ireland.
