KKR’s Kolkata-bound Charter Flight Diverted Twice Due To Bad Weather

The Kolkata Knight Riders‘ journey from Lucknow to Kolkata for their upcoming match turned into a nerve-wracking experience due to adverse weather conditions. Their charter flight had to divert its route twice, first to Guwahati and then to Varanasi, causing delays and uncertainty for the team. The scheduled match at Eden Gardens against the Mumbai Indians on May 11 added urgency to their travel plans.

In an official statement, the franchise explained, “Due to inclement weather over Kolkata, the KKR charter flight has been diverted to Guwahati. We’ve just landed here.”

However, shortly after, they received clearance to attempt the journey back to Kolkata. Despite this initial attempt, a subsequent tweet from KKR updated their followers. “Update at 1:20 AM: Flight diverted to Varanasi after another failed attempt at landing in Kolkata due to bad weather.”

“Current status: At the Lal Bahadur Shastri International airport tarmac.” As the situation continued to unfold, they shared, “Update at 3:00 AM: KKR team would be checking into Varanasi hotel for overnight stay.  Return flight to Kolkata TBD on Tuesday (7 May) afternoon. Stay safe, Kolkata.”

KKR’s most recent IPL 2024 match was a resounding victory in Lucknow at the Ekana Stadium against LSG on Sunday, where they triumphed by a significant 98-run margin.

Despite the disruptions, the team remained focused on their upcoming game and the importance of their performance at Eden Gardens.

The experience highlighted the unpredictability of travel during the IPL season, where teams navigate not only competitive matches but also logistical hurdles. The safety and well-being of players and staff remained a priority amid these unforeseen circumstances, as evidenced by the careful planning and communication from the franchise.
