Maintaining his exceptional form as an opener, Sunil Narine provided Kolkata Knight Riders with a rapid start with the bat on Wednesday (April 3) against Delhi Capitals in Vishakhapatnam during IPL 2024.
KKR captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat. Khaleel Ahmed began strongly, conceding only three extras in the first over, with neither Sunil Narine nor Phil Salt managing to score. In the second over, Phil Salt found his rhythm, striking two boundaries off Ishant Sharma.
In the third over, Sunil Narine registered his first boundary of the match, while Salt continued to hit boundaries in the same over. Narine gained momentum in the fourth over when Ishant Sharma bowled his second over.
Despite Sharma’s efforts to contain Narine with a couple of dot balls in his previous over, Narine seemed to be getting into his stride. However, Sunil Narine had different intentions. He attacked Ishant Sharma aggressively, scoring 26 runs off the over.
Watch Sunil Narine score 26 runs against Ishant Sharma:
Narine initiated with a lofted shot over mid-off for his first six of the match. Despite Sharma attempting a short delivery, Narine responded with another six by pulling the ball. The third delivery resulted in a boundary before Sharma finally managed to bowl a dot ball.
However, Narine concluded the over by striking another six followed by a boundary. Discussing the match, Anrich Nortje provided DC with a crucial breakthrough by removing Salt for 18 runs in the fifth over.
However, this setback didn’t deter Narine’s aggressive batting. In the last over of the powerplay, he smashed a six and three boundaries to achieve a fifty off just 21 balls. As of the current report, KKR stood at 105/1 in the 8th over.
