Despite RCB’s loss to KKR in the IPL 2024 match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, star batter Virat Kohli motivated the team with encouraging words. Despite the defeat, the franchise upheld their tradition of awarding the Player of the Match, with Glenn Maxwell presenting the honour to Kohli for his standout performance, notably his valiant knock of 83.

Bengaluru suffered their second defeat of the season as KKR defeated them by 7 wickets in an intense showdown. After RCB’s defeat, the team posted a special video on their social media platforms, depicting a subdued atmosphere in the dressing room.

Maxwell attempted to lift the team’s spirits by announcing the award for Kohli. Light-heartedly, Kohli remarked that he eagerly anticipated the hamper and even thought about it every night.

“Thank you Max, I was really looking forward to this hamper. Every night I think about it,” Kohli said in a light-hearted manner.

Kohli’s comment sparked laughter in the sombre dressing room following the defeat. He acknowledged that it had been a challenging night for the team and encouraged them to embrace it and move forward with the same conviction and bravery.

“But on a serious note, we had a tough night, we all know that. And we are much better than that so, as long as we accept it and move forward with the same courage and same belief in our skills. That’s all we can come up with. So let’s stay on that path,” Kohli said in the RCB video.

How did Kohli manage against KKR?

Kohli stood out as the standout player for his team in the match against KKR. The renowned batsman achieved his 52nd IPL fifty and second consecutive half-century in the competition. Facing bowlers such as Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narine, he finished unbeaten on 83 runs from 57 deliveries, contributing significantly to his team’s total of 183 runs.

However, the KKR opening pair of Phil Salt and Sunil Narine amassed 85 runs during the powerplay, the highest tally scored within the first 6 overs this season. RCB struggled to stem the flow of runs as KKR surged ahead in the match, ultimately chasing down the target with 19 balls remaining.
