IPL 2024: [WATCH] Virat Kohli In Animated Chat With The Umpire Post-match About His Controversial Dismissal

In yet another setback for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during their IPL 2024 journey, they faced a narrow defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), losing by just one run in a thrilling match. The close margin of defeat highlights the intensity of the contest.

Adding to the drama was the contentious dismissal of Virat Kohli, who was caught and bowled by KKR’s Harshit Rana after grappling with an above-waist full toss. Despite Kohli’s review of the decision, he was ruled out, leading to a heated exchange with the umpires.

Kohli’s frustration boiled over as he engaged in a tense discussion with the umpires before venting his anger on a nearby trash can near the RCB dugout. With no choice but to leave the field, Kohli entrusted the chase to his teammates.

Following the match, Kohli sought clarification from another official regarding the legality of the delivery from Harshit. Their animated conversation persisted for several minutes, with Kohli vehemently defending his case.

“The match-up against Narine, I thought that was the game-changing over” – Faf on Narine

Reflecting on the controversy, RCB captain Faf du Plessis conceded that little could be done, as Kohli was given out by the rules of the game. Despite the disappointment, RCB acknowledged the outcome and shifted its focus to future encounters.

Du Plessis said: “It was crazy, rules are rules, Virat and myself thought that the ball was higher than the waist (on Kohli’s dismissal), I guess they measured from the popping crease, one team thinks it’s high, the other doesn’t. That’s how the game goes at times. Then the partnership, it was magnificent (on the Jacks-Patidar partnership), but when you don’t win too many games, some sort of panic sets in and the Narine over was game-changing.”

“You don’t feel that you have time to settle down and bat (on the evolution of the IPL this season), the game doesn’t allow it to do that, obviously you have an extra batter, but in chases like these, you have to keep going. The match-up against Narine, I thought that was the game changing over. The small things, I am actually proud of the boys tonight, the way we bowled and fielded, we did give away a couple of big overs towards the end, but I thought we kept them down to a par score.”
