IPL 2025: Avesh Khan Cleared To Rejoin LSG After Injury Layoff

After weeks of uncertainty, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have received a significant boost with the return of fast bowler Avesh Khan for the IPL 2025 season. Avesh, who had been sidelined since late January due to a right knee injury, has been cleared to play following rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

His last competitive appearance was for India in a T20I against South Africa in November 2024, and he also missed Madhya Pradesh’s final league match in the Ranji Trophy. With LSG struggling with injuries to key Indian pacers, Avesh’s return comes at a crucial time for the franchise.

BCCI Medical Clearance and Expected Return Date

Avesh Khan has officially received medical clearance from the BCCI, confirming his fitness to participate in the tournament. According to an ESPNcricinfo report, he underwent his final fitness assessment on Monday before being given the green light. The injury, which stemmed from workload strain during the domestic season, had been a concern, but Avesh has now successfully completed his recovery.

While his exact comeback date for LSG remains undecided, he is expected to be available for their upcoming match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27. LSG, who lost their opening match to Delhi Capitals, have been dealing with a series of injuries in their pace attack, with Mayank Yadav, Akash Deep, and Mohsin Khan all struggling with fitness issues.

LSG’s Investment in Avesh Khan for IPL 2025

Ahead of IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants reacquired Avesh Khan for ₹9.75 crore at the mega auction. The Madhya Pradesh pacer was a key player for LSG in 2022 and 2023 before being traded to Rajasthan Royals for the 2024 season. However, recognizing his potential and experience, LSG decided to bring him back into their squad.

With 74 wickets in 62 IPL innings, including a best performance of 4/24, Avesh will be looking to justify the franchise’s faith in him. His return strengthens LSG’s bowling attack at a time when injuries have disrupted their squad, and the team will be hoping he can deliver match-winning performances in the upcoming games.
