Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar recently commented on the changing nature of the pitch at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during IPL 2025. He noted that the surface is not behaving like it used to in previous seasons.

While he refrained from giving a specific reason, he pointed out that RCB will need to adjust their game plan depending on the pitch’s behaviour. This remark comes as RCB prepares to face Punjab Kings in their third home game of the season. Despite a strong overall performance this season, winning four out of six matches, both of RCB’s losses came at their home ground, raising questions about the current nature of the Chinnaswamy wicket.

RCB’s Struggles at Home

RCB suffered defeats in their home games against the Gujarat Titans and the Delhi Capitals. In both matches, the team batting first failed to post totals beyond 170 runs, which is unusual for the usually high-scoring Chinnaswamy ground. Bowlers from both sides found more assistance from the pitch than expected, making it harder for batters to dominate.

RCB’s own bowlers couldn’t take a similar advantage, and the team found it difficult to counter the quality of their opponents. This change in pitch behaviour is seen as a key factor in their home losses, highlighting a need for better adaptability by the team.

Team’s Approach and Mindset

Despite the recent setbacks, Bhuvneshwar Kumar stated that RCB’s preparations remain unchanged. He mentioned that the team follows the same process regardless of the venue or opposition. He acknowledged Chinnaswamy’s reputation for being a batting-friendly pitch but emphasized that conditions have changed.

As per Bhuvneshwar, the team plans to assess the pitch during the first few overs and adjust their strategy accordingly, whether batting or bowling first. His comments reflect the team’s focus on staying flexible and making tactical decisions based on match conditions. The upcoming game against Punjab Kings is another opportunity for RCB to show how well they can adapt to the evolving nature of their home pitch.
