Mitchell Starc delivered a magnificent final over as the DC side forced the very first Super over of the season against the RR side in IPL 2025. Chasing 189 runs, RR restricted themselves to just 188 runs in 20 overs, and Starc managed to defend 9 runs off the last over. Earlier, DC put a total of 188 runs in five wickets against Rajasthan Royals in their IPL 2025 match played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium asked to bat first, DC had very good stuff from Abhishek Porel at the top with 49 runs off 37 balls.

KL Rahul consumed 32 balls for his 38 before skipper Axar Patel (34 off 14 balls) and Tristan Stubbs (34 not out off 18) switched to top gear to help DC go past 175-run mark. Sandeep Sharma bowled a 23-run final over, allowing DC to get close to 190.

Key Moments from DC vs RR

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc was awarded Player of the Match for his death-over and Super Over exploits. Although Starc registered only 1 wicket for 36 runs, his contribution was huge. Starc bowled a great 18th over with slow balls and yorkers, taking the all-important wicket of Nitish Rana for only 8 runs. He replicated this in the 20th over by bowling brilliant yorkers to take the game into a Super Over.

Captains’ Performances

DC captain Axar Patel had a good all-round game with 34 from 14 and bowling figures of 1/23. Samson, RR’s captain, looked dangerous with the bat until he injured himself and had to retire from the game, which proved to be a turning point.

Sanju Samson’s retire hurts

One more injury scare was a painful sight for the RR captain, Sanju Samson during the chase. He was batting at 31 runs off 19 balls, and during the sixth over, Samson pulled up in apparent pain as he attempted to cut leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam. Holding his left side near the ribs, he called the physio and popped a painkiller tablet. After a while, he resumed batting but looked uncomfortable on the very next delivery and after another painful attempted big shot, he walked off retired hurt.
