Lucknow Super Giants’ spinner Digvesh Rathi once again drew attention during the IPL 2025 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders by repeating his controversial wicket celebration. After dismissing Sunil Narine, he performed a variation of his well-known act—pretending to write something on the ground.

This gesture was similar to the “notebook” celebration he had used previously, which had already resulted in two separate fines by the BCCI. The earlier instance occurred after he took the wicket of Priyansh Arya. Despite the previous penalties, Rathi continued with his signature style, showing no signs of stepping away from the celebratory gesture.

LSG Batting Dominates KKR

Lucknow Super Giants had an outstanding day with the bat at Eden Gardens. Their total of 238/3 in 20 overs became their second-highest ever in IPL history. Openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram set the tone early on. They tackled the KKR bowlers aggressively, especially during the power-play, where LSG reached 59 without losing a wicket. Vaibhav Arora, known for his effectiveness in the power-play, could not create any pressure.

Spencer Johnson was especially expensive, and Markram punished him with three boundaries in a single over. When the spinners—Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy—were brought into the attack, they too failed to make an impact, conceding 38 runs in four overs. Markram’s innings ended at 47, bowled by Harshit Rana , but not before he built a strong 99-run opening stand with Marsh.

Pooran’s Power Hitting Steals the Show

After Markram’s dismissal, Nicholas Pooran joined Mitchell Marsh at the crease and immediately took control. Pooran, who had struggled against Narine in past matches, turned the tide by smashing him for two sixes in a row. Marsh continued his excellent form by reaching his fourth fifty of the season in just five games, joining the likes of Warner, Kohli, and Gayle in that elite record. He scored 81 off 48 balls before being dismissed by Andre Russell.

Pooran then took over completely, blasting his way to 87 not out off just 36 deliveries, including eight sixes. His innings became his highest score in the IPL so far. The KKR bowlers had a day to forget, with all main bowlers conceding runs at over 12 runs per over. The combined efforts of Marsh, Markram, and Pooran helped LSG post a massive total, leaving Kolkata struggling to contain the onslaught.
