Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 97 in their IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Though he missed out on a century, his focus remained on helping PBKS secure a strong total as they continue their quest for their first IPL title.
By the end of the 19th over, Iyer was on 97*, while Shashank Singh had raced to 22 off 10 balls. Rather than focusing on his personal milestone, Iyer put the team first, ensuring Punjab Kings maximized their total.
Before the final over, Iyer approached Shashank, who was striking the ball fluently, and urged him not to worry about his hundred but to keep playing aggressively for the team’s benefit. Shashank repaid his captain’s faith by hammering five boundaries off Mohammed Siraj’s over, taking Punjab Kings to a formidable 243/5 in 20 overs.
When asked later about denying Iyer a century, Shashank responded:
“Yes, it was a good cameo. But looking at Shreyas, that motivated me even more. Let me be very honest – Shreyas, from ball one, said don’t worry about my hundred! Just watching the ball and reacting to it.”
“I try and make sure I get the boundaries. When you bat at that number, it’s likely that you won’t always get a good hit. I know the shots I can back. I focus on my strengths rather than things I can’t do,” he added.
Punjab Kings Win by 11 Runs Against Gujarat Titans
In the IPL 2025 match on March 25, Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a thrilling 11-run victory over Gujarat Titans (GT). Batting first, PBKS posted an imposing total of 243/5 in 20 overs. Shreyas Iyer led the charge with an unbeaten 97, while Shashank Singh provided a late flourish with a quickfire 44*.
In pursuit of the challenging target, Gujarat Titans fought hard but fell short, finishing at 232/6. Sai Sudharsan was the standout performer for GT, scoring 74, but PBKS bowlers held their nerve in the final overs to seal the win.
The Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) next match in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled for Tuesday, April 1, 2025, against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The game will take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow and is set to begin at 7:30 PM IST.
