IPL 2025: Hardik Pandya Criticizes Batting Performance After MI’s Second Consecutive IPL Loss

Mumbai Indians (MI) have had a rough start to their IPL campaign, suffering two consecutive defeats, the latest being a 36-run loss against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. Skipper Hardik Pandya expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance, particularly pointing out the basic errors made by the batters.

Powerplay Struggles and GT’s Strong Start

Gujarat Titans capitalized on the home advantage by preparing a black-soil pitch in Ahmedabad. Their top order, led by Sai Sudharsan, made the most of it, scoring 66 runs in the powerplay. Sudharsan’s composed innings resulted in his second consecutive fifty in the tournament. Hardik acknowledged that MI had lost momentum right from the powerplay.

“They batted brilliantly without taking unnecessary risks and got the boundaries they needed,” he said in the post-match presentation. According to him, MI was forced onto the back foot early, and from that point, they were constantly playing catch-up.

Concerns Over MI’s Batting Performance

While Pandya himself performed decently with the ball, taking two wickets with slower deliveries, he was highly critical of MI’s batting lineup, which includes star players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and himself. He pointed out that MI’s inability to adapt to the conditions and play responsibly cost them the game.

“We were unprofessional in the field and made basic mistakes that gave away 20-25 extra runs. In a T20 game, that is a big margin,” Hardik said. He admitted that while it is still early in the season, the batters need to step up and take responsibility if they want to turn things around.

Looking Ahead for MI’s Next Challenge

Despite the rocky start, Pandya remains hopeful that MI can bounce back. He emphasized that the team must quickly address its batting concerns and come together as a unit. MI’s next challenge is against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at home, where they will look to register their first win of the season.

With star players in their ranks, MI has the potential to recover, but as Pandya pointed out, the team needs to find form before it’s too late in the tournament.
