Mumbai Indians have received a massive boost ahead of their IPL 2025 campaign as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has rejoined the team after completing his rehabilitation. The right-arm pacer, who was recovering at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, has linked up with the squad before their high-octane clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Bumrah had been out of action since he suffered a back injury during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year.
His absence in the initial games had a significant impact on Mumbai Indians’ performance, as the team struggled to find their rhythm without their strike bowler. Now with Bumrah returning, hopes are high that MI can turn around their slow start to the season.
Bumrah’s Impact and Possible Return
Since making his debut for Mumbai Indians in 2013, Jasprit Bumrah has become an indispensable part of their bowling unit. Widely regarded as one of the best pacers in the world, Bumrah has played 133 matches for MI and picked up 165 wickets. While it’s still uncertain if he will be fit in time for the April 7 match against RCB, there’s a strong possibility that he might be available for the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 17.

Anticipation around his return is already building, with SRH all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy expressing his excitement at the prospect of facing Bumrah. Speaking on JioHotstar’s show Gen Bold, Reddy said that going up against a world-class bowler like Bumrah is the kind of challenge every young player looks forward to.
MI’s Rough Start and the Road Ahead
Mumbai Indians have had a lackluster beginning to their 2025 IPL season, managing only one win from their first four matches. The absence of Bumrah was clearly felt, as their bowling attack lacked the edge and experience he brings. Additionally, the form of senior players like Rohit Sharma has also been a concern.
The franchise is now banking on Bumrah’s return to reinvigorate their campaign. As Nitish Reddy rightly pointed out, players like Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli have shaped the current generation of Indian cricket. Their presence not only adds strength to the team but also inspires the upcoming talent to strive for greatness.
