Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Jofra Archer set an unwanted IPL record, surpassing Mohit Sharma for the most runs conceded in a match. He was taken apart by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), conceding 76 runs in his four-over spell at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 23.
His much-anticipated return to the franchise turned into a nightmare as he was hit all around the park. Stand-in RR captain Riyan Parag introduced Jofra Archer into the attack in the fifth over, but he was immediately put under pressure by a dominant Travis Head, giving away 23 runs, including five boundaries.
Returning for the 11th over, Archer conceded another 12 runs, allowing SRH to maintain their momentum. His third over was particularly brutal, as Ishan Kishan smashed him for consecutive sixes at the start and finished with another maximum. By the end of three overs, Archer had already leaked 57 runs without taking a wicket.
In the final stages of his spell, Archer faced an in-form Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, making his task even more difficult. Bowling the 18th over, he was struck for four boundaries as SRH surpassed the 250-run mark.
His spell ended with another boundary, pushing his tally past the previous record of 73 runs conceded in an IPL match. Archer finished with dismal figures, conceding a total of 14 boundaries—an unwanted record that now finds its place in IPL history.

Archer’s costly spell helps SRH post 286
RR’s revamped bowling attack struggled alongside Archer, as SRH batters dominated every bowler. The Orange Army equaled the record for the fastest team 200 in IPL history, reaching the milestone in just 85 balls.
Ishan Kishan marked his franchise debut with a stunning century, following a strong start from Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Cameos from Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen further powered SRH to a massive total of 286.
The 2024 IPL finalists fell just one run short of breaking their own record for the highest IPL total (287).
