IPL 2025: KL Rahul Walks Out Of Nets After Knee Blow Ahead Of Crucial MI vs DC Clash

Delhi Capitals (DC) star batter KL Rahul sustained a blow to his right knee from a delivery by Mukesh Kumar during a practice session, prompting him to leave midway ahead of their must-win IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI).

With their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, Axar Patel’s side is set to face the five-time champions at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, May 21. Rahul, who recently returned to the top of the order with a brilliant century in DC‘s 10-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans (GT), remains the team’s top run-scorer this season.

He also boasts an outstanding record both at the Wankhede Stadium and against MI, having amassed 611 runs in 11 matches at the venue at an average of 67.89 and a strike rate of 147.23, including a century. According to the Times of India, the injury occurred during the net session on his right knee.

Whether the injury will affect KL Rahul’s availability for the rest of DC’s IPL campaign or his upcoming national duties is still uncertain, with no official update on its severity so far.

KL Rahul has previously missed significant periods of cricket due to injuries, including the latter half of IPL 2023, the World Test Championship Final, and much of the home Test series against England due to a recurring quadriceps issue.

KL Rahul eyes England tour and potential T20I comeback

The right-hander is now a vital part of India’s Test plans for the England tour, especially after Rohit and Kohli retired from the format, creating a leadership and experience void in the batting lineup that Rahul is expected to help fill.

He’s also said to be on the selectors’ radar for the T20Is against Bangladesh, with an eye on the 2026 T20 World Cup, where his form, fitness, and adaptability across formats could prove crucial for India’s campaign.
