Sanju Samson, who captains the Rajasthan Royals, has confirmed that he will not lead the side in the first three games of IPL 2025. Andrew Samson said he has not totally recovered from the injury worrying him earlier this season, and Riyan Parag will be the stand-in captain for the initial three games, with Samson playing only as a batter for all those matches.
Earlier this year, while playing in the T20I series, Samson fractured a finger. He was subsequently operated on for that injury and then recuperated at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He then joined the Rajasthan Royals camp in Jaipur on March 18.
A Precautionary Measure for Sanju Samson
The Rajasthan Royals have decided to sit Samson out as captain for the first three games as a precautionary measure for his full recovery. Until he receives a green signal for wicketkeeping, he may serve as an Impact Substitute. “I am not completely fit for the next three games. There are a lot of leaders in this group. In the last few years, some great people have taken care of this environment really nicely. For the next three games, Riyan will lead the team,” said Samson.
He supports Riyan Parag, who will lead the team in Samson’s absence. “He is capable of doing it. I expect everyone to support him and be with him,” Samson added. The Rajasthan Royals have Dhruv Jurel for wicketkeeping duties, meaning they are well-equipped for the short period of time when Samson is absent from the captaincy.
