IPL 2025: Ramandeep Singh Opens Up On Shreyas Iyer’s Captaincy In KKR

Ramandeep Singh, an allrounder for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), recently revealed that he chose to stay with KKR despite receiving higher offers from other franchises before the IPL 2025 mega auction. During a podcast on the *’Raj Shamani’* YouTube channel, Ramandeep disclosed that other franchises were willing to bid up to INR 10 crore for him.

However, he turned down these lucrative offers and decided to remain with KKR for INR 4 crore. He expressed that KKR had supported him when he was not well-known, and he felt a sense of duty to repay that trust.

According to Ramandeep, leaving a franchise that has helped a player just for money would be morally wrong. He emphasized that loyalty to a franchise is more valuable than financial gains, especially when the franchise has stood by a player during their formative years.

Criticism of Shreyas Iyer’s Decision

While discussing his decision, Ramandeep Singh took a subtle dig at his former KKR captain, Shreyas Iyer. Iyer, who led KKR to an IPL title in 2024, chose to leave the franchise and enter the auction pool. As a result, KKR did not retain him, and he was eventually picked up by Punjab Kings for a staggering INR 26.75 crore, making him the captain for IPL 2025.

Ramandeep indirectly criticized Iyer’s decision, suggesting that leaving a team purely for financial reasons reflects a player’s character. He pointed out that some players prioritize money over loyalty, even after having played for much smaller amounts in the past. Ramandeep’s remarks seemed to highlight the contrast between his own commitment to KKR and Iyer’s choice to move for a higher price.

Ramandeep Singh’s IPL Journey and Future Goals

Ramandeep Singh’s journey in the IPL began in 2022 with Mumbai Indians, but he gained prominence during the 2024 season with KKR. His exceptional performances earned him a T20I debut for India in November 2024 during the South Africa series. Last season, Ramandeep contributed significantly as a finisher.

He scored 125 runs at an impressive strike rate of 201.61 and an average of 31.25. Despite the tempting offers from other franchises, Ramandeep’s focus remains on representing India and winning a World Cup. His dedication to KKR and his ambition to achieve greater success on the international stage reflect his commitment to the game beyond financial rewards.
