Yuzvendra Chahal again showed why he is one of the most dependable bowlers in the IPL. Representing Punjab Kings, Chahal played a match-winning role as his team pulled off a sensational 16-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders. This match became historic as PBKS defended just 111 runs, the lowest score ever successfully defended in IPL history.
Chahal delivered a superb spell, taking 4 wickets for 28 runs in four overs. His clever bowling and ability to read the batters under pressure earned him the Player of the Match title. Speaking after the win, Chahal mentioned the importance of staying positive and working as a team despite the small total. He praised the overall effort and said that the plan was to take early wickets in the powerplay to put pressure on the opposition.
Experience, Strategy, and Self-Belief
Chahal explained how the pitch offered turn, which helped him and the other spinners. After his first ball turned, captain Shreyas Iyer suggested placing a slip, hoping to grab a few early wickets. Chahal stuck to his strengths, varying his pace and using the pitch to his advantage. He said he always believes in himself and focuses on how to dismiss batters.

His changes in pace and angles made it difficult for the KKR batters to settle. This ability to outthink the opposition once again highlighted his experience and tactical awareness. On a tricky pitch where scoring was difficult, Yuzvendra Chahal‘s smart bowling stood out and played a key role in turning the game around.
Match Highlights and Points Table Impact
PBKS chose to bat first after winning the toss. Openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gave a fiery start by adding 39 runs in quick time. Arya scored 22 from 12 balls, while Prabhsimran made 30 from 15. However, KKR’s bowlers, especially Harshit Rana with 3 wickets and spinners Narine and Chakravarthy, pulled things back, and PBKS was bowled out for 111 in just 15.3 overs.
In reply, KKR struggled against some disciplined bowling from PBKS. Marco Jansen supported Chahal well by picking up 3 wickets for 17 runs. Despite small contributions from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Andre Russell, KKR could only reach 95 runs. This result placed PBKS at fourth position with four wins, while KKR slipped to sixth with three wins.
