The Gujarat Titans (GT) continued their clinical march in IPL 2026, securing a massive 77-run victoryover the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday, May 9.
Led by a masterful batting performance from captain Shubman Gill and a lethal spell from Rashid Khan, the Titans climbed to second place on the points table, while the Royals suffered a significant blow to their playoff aspirations.
After being put in to bat by RR’s stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal, Gujarat’s openers set a blistering tone.Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan dismantled the Rajasthan bowling attack with a 118-run opening stand.
Gill was in sublime form, smashing 84 runs off 44 balls with nine boundaries and three sixes. Sudharsan provided excellent support with a fluent 55 off 36 balls. Late-inning fireworks from Washington Sundar (37 off 20)* and Rahul Tewatia (14 off 4) propelled Gujarat to a formidable total of 229/4, the highest score ever recorded at the venue.

In last 3 games vs RR, Gill was not able to take field for GT in 2 games
Resulted in 2 losses, 1 of which counts under Gill’s name even when he made 84
There was a small injury scare today as well but he stayed determined & won it
Team in top 2, Shubman silences the critics. pic.twitter.com/ygCBfqw6BQ

Vaibhav shines but RR collapse in chase
Rajasthan’s chase began with high energy but lacked the necessary stability. 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played a fearless cameo, scoring 36 runs off 16 balls and becoming the fastest player to reach 100 career sixes in T20 history.
However, once he fell to Mohammed Siraj, the RR middle order crumbled. Ravindra Jadeja fought a lone battle with a steady 38 off 25 balls, and Dhruv Jurel contributed a quick 24 off 10 balls, but regular wickets prevented any meaningful momentum.
The Gujarat bowlers were relentless, led by the “Player of the Match” Rashid Khan. The leg-spinner delivered a match-winning spell, taking 4/33 in his four overs and dismantling the Royals’ middle order.
Jason Holderwrapped up the tail efficiently, finishing with figures of 3/12, while Kagiso Rabadaclaimed two wickets.Rajasthan was eventually bowled out for 152 in 16.3 overs, handing Gujarat their fourth consecutive win and moving the Royals down to fifth place in the standings.
