The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) revealed this tournament schedule during a meeting in Abu Dhabi with franchise owners. It is the 19th time that the league will be held, and the dollar signs continue to attract the best and the most prominent global players and the least investment.

According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI revealed the schedule on the eve of the IPL 2026 auction, as reported on Monday, December 15. The announcement was made when BCCI and franchise representatives were in talks about upcoming tournament preparations and planning.

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has yet to be confirmed as the venue for the opening match and the final of IPL 2026. The IPL opener and the last match have traditionally been played at the venue of the last year’s winners. Nonetheless, after the unfortunate incident at RCB’s IPL 2025 celebration where a stampede led to the death of over 10 people, the position of the stadium in the tournament is uncertain. The venue has not seen any matches since the tragic event.

Official BCCI announcement about M. Chinnaswamy Stadium’s involvement in IPL 2026 has not been made yet. It remains unclear whether Royal Challengers Bengaluru will play at their usual home ground during the upcoming season.

“The dates for IPL Season 19 were disclosed by Hemang Amin, the league’s CEO, during a briefing ahead of Tuesday’s auction. Traditionally, the opening match is staged in the city of the defending champions, but the availability of the Chinnaswamy Stadium remains uncertain. While the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has received a conditional clearance from the state government to host IPL games at the venue, it is subject to meeting stipulated safety and security requirements,” the Cricbuzz report read.

The IPL 2026 auction that is happening in Abu Dhabi on December 16 will see a total of 369 players put to bidding. Last week, BCCI declared the roster of 350 players and as per Cricbuzz, an additional 19 players have been included in the list.
