Irfan Pathan Reveals Reasons Behind Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Dismal Run In IPL 2021

Former Team India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has revealed the reason behind Sunrisers Hyderabad’s dismal run in IPL 2021 before BCCI halted the tournament. Incidentally, Hyderabad didn’t find the rhythm throughout the season finding themselves in the eighth spot with only one win from seven outings.

While teams like Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals are likely to make the playoffs with near-flawless starts to the season. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad along with Kolkata Knight Riders will be relieved with the break having had a forgettable campaign so far.

The Orange Army failed to solve their woes at the auction which hurt them badly throughout the season. Moreover, in the wake of their poor show, skipper David Warner had a fallout with the management following which he was sacked from leadership duties. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson was appointed as the captain but it didn’t change their fortunes.

David Warner’s captaincy let Sunrisers Hyderabad down – Irfan Pathan

Talking to Star Sports, Irfan Pathan blamed former skipper David Warner for their dismal campaign blaming his leadership for their poor performances. The cricketer-turned-commentator admitted that he was surprised to see the results.

“They surprised us. They were a top-four team for me. SRH’s biggest problem was David Warner’s captaincy, the way he was managing the team, and the way he was batting. He was batting very cautiously,” said Pathan during a discussion on Star Sports.”

He further added, “When Kane Williamson was made the captain later, it means franchise was not happy with him, the way he was making the decisions.”

Irfan Pathan also criticized the franchise for not playing Kedar Jadhav in the first few games. The veteran all-rounder was roped at the auction for his base price of INR 2 crores after Chennai Super Kings let him go.

“We always talk about SRH that they don’t have any experienced players in the middle. Kedar Jadhav did not play at the start although he is an experienced player. They played Suchith for a couple of matches and then again dropped him,” said Pathan.
