The Board of Cricket Control for India announced the central contract yesterday. Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have not been excluded due to both not playing domestic cricket.

Hardik Pandya has been included in category A despite focusing on white ball cricket. He was injured during the match against Bangladesh on follow-through and did not feature the rest of the tournament. He is currently taking part in the DY Patil tournament ahead of the IPL 2024.

Mumbai Indians appointed Hardik Pandya as the captain for IPL 2024 replacing Rohit Sharma. “They are talented cricketers, both Shreyas and Ishan. Hoping they bounce back and come back stronger. If players like Hardik don’t want to play red-ball cricket, should he and others like him participate in white-ball domestic cricket when they aren’t on national duty? If this doesn’t apply to all, then Indian cricket won’t achieve the desired results!”

“It has been communicated by both Jay Shah and Rohit Sharma that you need to play domestic cricket and that if you are not serious about it, there will be consequences. No one directly says what the consequences are, but these are the first signals about BCCI stating, ‘We don’t think you are serious, so your names have been removed.”

Shreyas Iyer And Ishan Kishan’s performance

Shreyas Iyer had a disappointing outing in the first two test matches against England at Hyderabad and Vizag. Iyer was dropped from the next three matches due to the poor form that he displayed in the first two matches.

The Indian cricket team has seen Dhurv Jurel rising to the occasion with match-winning knocks in the 4th test match at Ranchi that helped them win by 5 wickets. Iyer would take part in Ranji Trophy semi-finals against Tamil Nadu starting from 2nd March onwards.

On the other hand, Ishan Kishan withdrew from the test series due to mental fatigue. Jitesh Sharma played ahead of him in the T20I format while Sanju Samson played in the One-day international format. Kishan is currently taking part in DY Patil domestic tournament.
