Is Hardik Pandya a Good IPL Captain, Here’s What Stats Say

Hardik Pandya, the Indian all-rounder, is the captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) for year 2025. Pandya was handed over the role of full-fledged captaincy the first time in 2022 when he was bought by Gujarat Titans.

Pandya became the second captain after Shane Warne in the IPL (Indian Premier League) to win a trophy the first year as a captain of a franchise. It was also the first season of Gujarat Titans. Not just that, but Pandya also took Gujarat Titans (GT) into the finals of the IPL 2023, which makes him one of the best leaders in the IPL.

However, the IPL 2024 was a season Hardik would like to forget as soon as possible. Pandya was bullied a lot by the fans in the stadium and MI, in fact, lost a majority of the matches it played under Hardik. Let’s take look at the stats to understand what has Hardik achieved as a captain in the IPL.

Pandya scored only 216 runs as the captain of Mumbai Indians at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 143.04. In bowling, his economy rate was 10.58. So if you just take the stats of GT, Hardik appears to be a captain like no other. But with MI, his start was very shaky, and thus, IPL 2025 will be an important year for the Indian all rounder to cement his place as the captain of the franchise.

MI has seen its ups and downs, and knows how to come back hard. In IPL 2024, the transition from Rohit Sharma to Pandya was a move that no fan liked, but with time, Hardik will be accepted for the value he brings to the team.
