Mumbai Indians cricketer Ishan Kishan has brought the limelight on himself with his consistent show in the recently-concluded IPL. He has been one of the top-performers as Mumbai defended their title in the UAE. In the wake of it, former India selectors MSK Prasad has picked Ishan as one of the hot contenders for the limited-overs wicket-keeper batsman spot.

With MS Dhoni stepping aside from international cricket earlier this year, the spot has been vacant permanently. Many tipped youngster Rishabh Pant to follow the footsteps on the legendary cricketer but the young cricketer from Delhi has failed to live up to the expectations.

Ishan Kishan will be hot contender for ODIs and T20Is – MSK Prasad

Earlier this year, KL Rahul took over the duties and did reasonably well. However, his glovework has remained in debates. As a result, the selectors might ponder to look for a better wicket-keeper batsman. And former chairman of selectors MSK Prasad believes Ishan Kishan can be a prime contender for the spot.

“It’s really fantastic to see this pocket dynamite in action. He had a fantastic IPL. Batting at No. 4 and later opening the innings, shows his adaptability and temperament. His ability to switch gears as per the team’s requirements will definitely place him as a hot contender for the wicketkeeper-batsman slot for Team India in both T20s & ODIs in times to come,” Prasad told TOI.

“If he can keep wickets well and bat the same way he did in the IPL, he will be a welcome addition to the national squad,” MSK Prasad added.

Ishan Kishan, who had joined Mumbai Indians in 2018, accumulated 516 runs at a strike-rate of 145.76. He started the season in the middle-order and was promoted to open for four matches in Rohit Sharma’s absence. Kishan maintained his consistency and played a key role in MI’s success during the season.
