Ishan Kishan Plans To Join The DY Patil Tournament – Reports

Ishan Kishan is anticipated to participate in the DY Patil Tournament in Mumbai ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), as reported by Dainik Bhaskar. Having left the South Africa tour midway for a mental break, he hasn’t played cricket since.

Kishan opted out of the ongoing series against England, with Dhruv Jurel receiving a debut call-up. Surprisingly, the left-handed batter also decided not to play in the Ranji Trophy, choosing to practice in Baroda with the Pandya brothers.

Recent reports suggest that the BCCI is displeased with players transitioning into ‘IPL mode.’ They have directed centrally contracted players, excluding those involved in the national team or dealing with injuries, to participate in the Ranji Trophy.

“In the next few days, all the players will be communicated by the BCCI to play for their state team in the Ranji Trophy, as long as they are not on national duty, with only those who are unfit and recovering at the NCA being granted an exemption.”

”The Board isn’t too happy with certain players already in IPL mode from January,” a source said on February 11.

Head coach Rahul Dravid has emphasized multiple times that Ishan Kishan needs to participate in some cricket after his break to make a comeback to the national side.

It appears that Kishan has opted for the upcoming T20 tournament as the platform for his comeback, as he is unlikely to participate in Jharkhand’s final Ranji Trophy league stage match, starting on February 16.

Ishan Kishan took a break for mental health reasons to spend time with his family- Reports

According to the Dainik Bhaskar report, Ishan Kishan took a cricket break to be with his family. Regarding his non-participation in the ongoing Ranji Trophy, it is reportedly due to insufficient preparation.

The left-handed batsman’s last match was in the T20I series against Australia at home post the 2023 ODI World Cup. Before that, he had been consistently traveling with the team for events like the Asia Cup, the Caribbean tour, and various bilateral engagements.
