From being an architect to representing India in cricket, Varun Chakravarthy had a rollercoaster ride in his short career. On Sunday, the mystery spinner from Tamil Nadu made his international debut during the first T20I between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Meanwhile, Varun had opportunities to make his debut beforehand but it didn’t materialise. He was picked for the tour of Australia on the back of an outstanding IPL in the UAE but an untimely injury ruled him out.

Earlier this year, he was picked for the England series, but Varun Chakravarthy failed to clear the fitness test. Finally, after a long haul, he made his international debut against Sri Lanka and penned an emotional note on Twitter after achieving his dream. He wrote:
“Its been some journey from wearing a formal shirt (Architect) to donning the INDIAN jersey..with little highs & many lows, but the journey has been very beautiful than the destination, will keep marching ahead irrespective of the results. Thank you all. The journey goes on.”

Varun Chakravarthy returned with 1/28 in his debut game
The 29-year-old had a decent outing in the first T20I, returning with one for 28 in his quota of 4 overs and kept things tight from his end. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the star of the show picking four wickets as India comfortably defended 164 runs to win the match by 38 runs.
Meanwhile, Varun Chakravarthy will look to get better in the next two matches to give himself the best opportunity for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled in the UAE and Oman.
The 2nd T20I between India and Sri Lanka is on July 27 (Tuesday) at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
