BCCI Secretary Jay Shah revealed that the choice to exclude Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the centrally contracted players list was made by Ajit Agarkar, head of selectors.

Superstar Indian cricketers Iyer and Kishan were told by the BCCI not to play for their local teams in Ranji Trophy matches. In February, the governing board deemed this to be insufficient, and they were subsequently taken out of the main contracts.

After the home T20I series against Australia in November of last year, Kishan took a long break from cricket, but Iyer joined his home team, Mumbai, and played a few games, including the semi-finals and finals.

However, the right-hand batter found himself in hot water after he visited a Kolkata Knight Riders camp in Mumbai during a Ranji Trophy tournament held in his nation.

Jay Shah reveals who excluded Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the BCCI’s central contract:

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar decided to omit Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the BCCI central contract, according to Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“You can check the constitution. I am just a convener (of the selection meeting,” Jay Shah said during a media interaction at the BCCI head office on Thursday.

“That decision lies with Ajit Agarkar, even when these two players (Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer) did not play domestic (cricket), the decision to drop them (from the central contract list) was only his. My role is just to implement. And we have got new players (in place), like Sanju (Samson). Nobody is indispensable,” Jay Shah added.

Shah added that after Iyer and Kishan were denied central contracts, he had spoken with them. Additionally, he disclosed that Hardik Pandya has shown a desire to participate in domestic white-ball competitions in the future.

“Yes, I had spoken with them. The media had even carried the reports. Even Hardik (Pandya) said if BCCI is considering me for white-ball, then I am ready to play Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Any player will have to play, even if they do not want to, they will have to,” Shah added.

Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not included in the BCCI’s list of centrally contracted cricketers released in February.
