Limited overs skipper Mithali Raj in an interview shared her views on the T20 format of the game and the way women”s team is being groomed to be the best in the world.
In an interview from BCCI.TV, she said, “T20 WC is a different format when compared to ODI, the team has to work a lot in this format”.
About the current T20 series
Mithali played a vital role in this T20 series against SA. Speaking about the series she said “We have been doing well since last two games, chased 150 odd to gain a 2-1 lead. Still, a lot of work to do for the world cup. The team and especially top order look good but we need to work on spin as the T20 format will have batsman-friendly conditions.”
“It”s important to catch up the standards of the International level. Every player looks forward to playing better in all the formats of the game in every series. There is always a scope for improvement”, she mentioned.
Harman and Veda- The backbone
She also put forward the contributions made by Harmanpreet and Veda who have been performing consistently for the team.
She said” Very good batters in the form of Harman, Veda, and Smriti add strength to our team. Puja and Shika Pandey are filling the void of Jhulan Goswami”.
“The lower order needs to perform better. It”s not every time the top order plays well”.
Mithali also mentioned the addition of youngsters to the team and the amalgamation of them with experienced players adds a flavor to the team.
About fitness levels
Mithali believes that fitness is an important role in the life of a sportsman and without that nothing would have been possible.
“The girls have hired personal trainers to keep themselves fit. I worked on my fitness and looking to be consistent in the T20 format.”
Match winners
She also thanked BCCI for organizing various A team tours that aided in bringing a lot of raw talents to the team.
” Team should not always be dependent on one player. We now have 4-5 match winners in the team and it”s really happy to have such a great team”.
Waiting for home series
Australia and England women will be visiting India to play the limited overs and she expressed her excitement to play the series.
“Both the team bring a lot of experience with them. Will be really a competitive series and looking forward to it.”
Mithali who is an inspiration for most of the women across India is now the leading run scorer in the ODI format of the game. She is also known for her calm and cool attitude during the WWC 2017 in England when she was reading a book before she came out to bat.
