Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels Ravindra Jadeja won’t find it easy to be a part of the playing XI for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He expressed that Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya’s performance has made things difficult for the all-rounder.

Ravindra Jadeja could not manage to make an impact in the Indian Premier League 2022. He scored 116 runs at an average of 19.33 and took only five wickets in ten matches. The all-rounder also missed a few matches due to injury. On the other, Dinesh Karthik and Hardik Pandya made the most of the opportunity given to them in the T20I series against South Africa.

In a conversation with Firstpost, during a virtual interaction organized by Sony Sports, Manjrekar expressed his thoughts on the Indian team. He said,

“Clearly, Dinesh Karthik has shown that he can be a number 6 or 7 as a pure batter. The impact that he is making is phenomenal and we saw that in T20Is against South Africa and also in the IPL. So, it’s not really going to be easy for Jadeja to come in and take his place and India might settle in with somebody like Axar Patel.”

The former cricketer further expressed that Ravindra Jadeja will cause a problem of plenty for the Indian selectors. He said,

“The side now has Hardik Pandya, Karthik batting down the order. Rishabh Pant is also there so it’s not going to be easy for him. But knowing the kind of player Jadeja is, he will be making sure that the headache doesn’t get less for the selectors.”

Ravindra Jadeja is currently in England with the Indian test squad for the fifth rescheduled test match at the Edgbaston in Birmingham, starting from July 1.

Rishabh Pant will feel the pressure of having to perform: Sanjay Manjrekar

Indian wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant had a disappointing T20I series against South Africa. He managed to score only 58 runs in five innings at an average of 14.50 and strike rate of 105.45 in the series. Even in the Indian Premier League 2022 season, Rishabh Pant did not look at his best.

With the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Ishan Kishan doing well, Rishabh Pant will be under pressure to perform, feels Sanjay Manjrekar. The former cricketer also expressed that Rishabh Pant is still a work-in-progress player in the limited-overs format. He said,

“Rishabh Pant has made number four his place (During the South Africa series). Although, I thought Hardik Pandya should have batted at that position after the way he performed in the IPL. Ishan Kishan at the top and number four will be totally different. We haven’t seen him at that position and that’s not an easy position to bat on.”

“The kind of performances that we have seen from all the guys, Rishabh Pant will feel the pressure of having to perform. My thing is to wait and watch with Rishabh Pant because he is different and enigmatic and he has shown it at the Test level. He is a remarkable player. But in the white-ball cricket, he is someone who is still in the process of telling exactly what kind of a player he is,” Manjrekar added.
