Jade Dernbach, the tall right arm fast bowler from England, announced his retirement from the international arena. This comes a day after England scripts history by winning the Men”s Cricket World Cup for the first time.

Dernbach who played 24 One Day Internationals and 34 T20 Internationals for England, debuted in the year 2011. He took 31 and 39 wickets respectively in international cricket.

His retirement does not come as a big surprise as he was struggling to get his place back in the international side. He last played for England in the year 2014 in a T20I against South Africa of the Men”s T20 World Cup.

One thing which amused a lot of people is the timing of his retirement. No one expected him to retire right after his country would win the World Cup for the first time.

Dernbach aged 33 has still said that he would continue to play for Surrey. Unlike his international career, he proved to be an extremely potent bowler for Surrey.

He made his debut for Surrey in the year 2003 against India A at the age of 17. He played 113 first-class and 144 List A games and took 311 and 228 wickets respectively. It is surprising that for a person who never played Test Cricket for England, took over 300 wickets for his county at the first class level.

This can be one of the reasons why Dernbach retired. After assessing his chances to get back into the national side to be slim, maybe retirement was the best way for him.

Jade Dernbach would be playing the T20 Blast 2019 that commences this Thursday. This would be his first game for the year. He might be playing the new format of “The Hundred”.

CricFit wishes Jade Dernbach all the very best for his future and the second innings of his life.
