With India chasing 381 on the final day, James Anderson delivered a telling blow as he picked two wickets in an over to peg India back in the run chase. Bowling the 27th over of the Indian innings and his first of the day, Anderson picked up two wickets after India were looking good with Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli getting a good partnership going after the early wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara.
James Anderson first cleaned up Shubman Gill with the second ball of his very first over, reverse swinging back to castle Shubman Gill’s stumps. His third delivery found Ajinkya Rahane plumb in front of the wicket. England reviewed the decision after the onfield umpire gave it not out. It turned out to be the umpire’s call and hence the review was retained.

It was a tactical move from England skipper Joe Root to introduce James Anderson into the attack with the ball just starting to reverse swing. With these two wickets, Anderson took his tally to 114 wickets against India, his most against any country. His wickets have well and truly brought England back into the game, who have been ahead for the most part in the Test match.
Anderson’s wickets against India came in just 28 matches which takes him at the top of the pile for bowlers with the most wickets against India in Tests. Meanwhile, India are four wickets down and still trailing by over 300 runs. England meanwhile need six more wickets to win the first Test.
