Cricket is set to return after a long break of more than 4 months. Despite the lockdown imposed in majority parts of the world, the England West Indies series went ahead. Though rain played a spoilsport, we were able to see the beginning of Test cricket on day 1.
Before the Test match began, Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara were analysing the teams set to play in the first Test. Both the legends were in a discussion on Sachin Tendulkar’s 100MB app. It was in that particular discussion, Tendulkar talked of the most underrated all-rounder in the world at the moment.
Tendulkar picks the most underrated all-rounder
He regarded West Indies Test skipper Jason Holder as the most underrated all-rounder. He thinks that Holder possesses the ability to pick crucial wickets as well as score valuable 50-55 runs while batting.
“Jason Holder is the most under-rated all-rounder, because on the field, maybe you will look at Kemar Roach or Shannon Gabriel, but Jason Holder only when you look at the scoreboard, you realise that he has come in and taken three wickets. When he is batting, he has scored those crucial 50-55 runs when it mattered” Tendulkar told Brian Lara.
Furthermore, Sachin Tendulkar also talked about Ben Stokes’ transformation as a player since last few years. He feels that Stokes will go on to be one of the best all-rounders in world cricket in a few years time.
Meanwhile, Stokes is leading the England side in the ongoing Test in the absence of Joe Root. The regular Test skipper took a break as he and his wife were expecting the birth of their second child.
“For Ben Stokes from what he has been through in the recent past to where he is today, it is a total transformation and it can happen only to someone who is mentally strong. I really rate him highly and his impact on the field is a major one,” added Sachin.
