Jasprit Bumrah Silences ‘Pitch Demons’ In Press Conference Decoding The Truth Behind The Wicket

Star Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah, in the aftermath of his stellar performance on day two of the second Test against England at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, shared insights on the pitch. His exceptional bowling prowess saw him claim six wickets, dismissing key England batsmen such as Joe Root, Ollie Pope, Johnny Bairstow, and Ben Stokes. Bumrah lauded the remarkable innings played by young left-hand opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who notched his maiden double century, amassing 209 runs with 19 fours and seven sixes.

Additionally, Bumrah achieved the milestone of becoming the fastest Indian speedster to reach 150 wickets in Test cricket, accomplishing this feat in 6781 balls. He surpassed the likes of Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and legendary Kapil Dev in terms of the speed at which he achieved this milestone.

Bumrah said: “Yesterday evening we felt we lost two-three wickets more than we wanted to. So we wanted to capitalise as much as we could. Yashasvi [Jaiswal] played a brilliant innings and kept us in the game. The wicket is not doing a lot. There are no demons in the wicket.”

“Yes, the odd ball might turn, yes the odd ball might swing. Even with the new ball, nothing much was happening. It felt like you’d rather bowl with the older ball than the new ball. But I feel the wicket is really good. Hopefully, we can capitalise tomorrow”

Moreover, Bumrah etched his name in history by displacing Kapil Dev in dismissing the opposition’s third, fourth, fifth, and sixth batters in an innings during a Test in India. This achievement mirrored Kapil Dev’s iconic spell in 1983 against West Indies.

As the day concluded, India, led by captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, remained unbeaten at 28/0, establishing a commanding lead of 171 runs. Bumrah’s heroics had earlier propelled India to bundle out England for 253, securing a substantial 143-run advantage. Despite Zak Crawley’s commendable counterattack, Bumrah, supported by spinner Kuldeep Yadav, dismantled the rest of the English lineup. India’s first innings total of 396 runs was fueled by Jaiswal’s outstanding knock, complemented by contributions from Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, and Axar Patel.
