For India’s forthcoming Test series against Bangladesh, star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is probably going to get a rest. Bumrah has not played in the Sri Lankan forms or the series against Zimbabwe since the T20 World Cup 2024. Instead, he has been on leave.
Bumrah is India’s primary bowler at the moment, and the Indian team management is thought to be quite cautious about his workload. The selectors and team management want Jasprit Bumrah to be totally healthy for the important series against Australia and the following ICC competitions next year.
Following his heroics in the ICC T20 World Cup, Bumrah did not play in the IND against SL T20I and ODI series. India Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that Bumrah is one of the best bowlers in the world, and that workload management will play a significant role in his situation.
Jasprit Bumrah is set to be rested for India’s home test series:
The Indian Express reports that every Test regular—such as Kohli and Sharma—has been invited by the selection committee to take part in the Duleep Trophy, excluding Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah has received a few additional days off due to his burden. It is said that the selectors will discuss him being a part of two-Test series against Bangladesh. There are also ten Test matches scheduled for the next four months wherein India will play five important Test matches against Australia.
In addition to playing two home Tests against Bangladesh, India will play three more home Tests against New Zealand apart from this Australian tour. Since Bumrah could be rested from Bangladesh Tests so as to keep fit for New Zealand series at home and Australia tour.
Thus for the World Test Championship (WTC) final next year and ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, Bumrah could be India’s most important player. However, he would also be key player in Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is expected later this year.
