Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah underwent back surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand, and is recovering from the operation, as reported by Cricbuzz. The surgery was carried out by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rowan Schouten, who is attached to the Forte Orthopaedics Hospital in Christchurch. The surgery was successful and the bowler is on his way to full recovery.

Dr. Schouten has also previously worked with cricketers like James Pattinson and Jason Behrendorff besides Jofra Archer. Earlier this month, Jasprit Bumrah flew to New Zealand to undergo surgery at his hospital to address the injury. There have been several reports doing the round regarding Bumrah’s injury. However, the Forte Orthopaedics Hospital refused to comment on Bumrah’s progress, stating to cricbuzz,

“Any questions regarding Jasprit will be best directed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).”

Jasprit Bumrah to miss WTC final and Asia Cup

The Cricbuzz report further stated that Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be out of action for another six months. His career so far has been marred with injuries. The pacer last played for India in September 2022, in a T20I game against Australia. Since then he has missed several important tournaments like the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Bumrah was supposed to make his comeback earlier this year, however, the severity of the injury kept him out. With him likely to be out of action for another six months, he will miss the 2023 Indian Premier League season for the Mumbai Indians. Team India will also miss his services for the World Test Championship final in June and the 2023 Asia Cup tournament.

So far, the Board of Control for Cricket in India hasn’t officially released a statement updating Jasprit Bumrah’s injury status. However, they will be hoping that their lead pacer gets fit before the 2023 ICC World Cup, which will take place in October-November this year.
