Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has returned to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for another training stint to evaluate his fitness ahead of IPL 2025. As per ‘Cricbuzz’, the 31-year-old is seeking medical clearance to determine whether he can participate fully or partially in the tournament.
Bumrah, who last played during the fifth Border-Gavaskar Test against Australia in Sydney, experienced some pain and discomfort while bowling during his initial visit to the NCA. Consequently, he was prescribed specific exercises and asked to return for further assessment. However, reports suggest there is optimism regarding his recovery.
As he resumes bowling in this second phase at the NCA, Bumrah will receive clearance if he does not experience any discomfort. That said, he is expected to take at least another week to attain full match fitness, likely ruling him out of Mumbai Indians‘ first few games.
Mahela Jayawardene Optimistic About Jasprit Bumrah’s Return
During a press conference on Wednesday (March 19), Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene admitted that Jasprit Bumrah‘s absence is a significant setback for the team. However, he remains hopeful that the Indian pacer will rejoin the squad soon. The former Sri Lankan captain said:
“He just started that progress. We have to wait and see what their feedback is on him. At the moment, everything is going well but obviously, it is on a day-to-day basis, the progress.”
”He is in good spirits and hopefully, he can join the team sooner. Obviously, not having him is a challenge. He is one of the best bowlers in the world and he has been a fantastic pro for us for many years.”
Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar are expected to handle the new-ball responsibilities for the team. Mumbai Indians are set to kick off their campaign on March 23 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
