During the annual general meeting of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), a unanimous decision was reached to extend President Jay Shah’s term by an additional year, a proposal put forth for the second time by Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket. This decision garnered unanimous approval from all ACC members. Jay Shah assumed the presidency in January 2021 and, as the youngest administrator to be re-appointed as ACC President, has played a pivotal role in fostering cricket’s expansion throughout Asia.
Sri Lankan Cricket President Shammi Silva said: “Jay has played a pivotal role in steering the ACC towards significant progress in promoting and developing cricket across the Asian region.” Under Shah’s guidance, the ACC has been instrumental in unearthing and promoting new talent in cricketing powerhouses like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.”
“I am pleased that the ACC Board supported the proposal unanimously. Jay has a proven record of boosting finances through commercial and broadcast deals and channelizing the finances to the grassroots level, uplifting the associate members.”

Under Shah’s visionary leadership, the ACC successfully orchestrated the Asia Cup in both T20 and ODI formats in 2022 and 2023, respectively, showcasing Asia’s capability in hosting premier cricket events. Shammi Silva praised Shah for his significant contributions to advancing cricket in Asia, commending his pivotal role in driving the ACC toward notable progress in promoting and developing the sport across the region. Shah’s tenure not only saw the successful execution of flagship events but also witnessed active efforts to promote cricket in emerging nations such as Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, and Nepal. The ACC board also acknowledged Shah’s strategic financial acumen, citing his efforts in enhancing stability through lucrative commercial and broadcast deals.
