Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat is disappointed after getting snubbed from the Indian squad that was announced for the England tour. The BCCI selection panel named a 20-member squad with no left-arm pacers. A knee injury to Natarajan in the IPL meant that he was ruled out from inclusion as well. Unadkat with his vast experience in domestic cricket was the best left-arm option available but the selection panel did not include him in the team.

After getting snubbed, Jaydev Unadkat expressed his disappointment over the same while talking to Wisden India. His vast domestic experience was not enough to impress the selectors for the much-awaited England tour.

Was Expecting Call-Up In Larger Pool Of Players: Jaydev Unadkat

“To be honest, I was expecting [selection], given the big pool of players going. I was the highest wicket-taker in the last [Ranji Trophy] and then nothing worked out. I know for a fact that the current crop of fast bowlers we have in the team have all been doing well. So maybe not in the main group – I was expecting to be in the larger pool,” Unadkat told Wisden India.

Unadkat further praised the current Indian pacers saying that they are doing very well as a unit. He also added that being a left-arm bowler gives a very good option to the team, but maintained that needs to work hard.

Being A Left-Armer Adds Variety: Jaydev Unadkat

“Being a left-armer adds to the variety factor, but I know that alone won’t get me in the team. You can’t just be a left-armer and think you can get away by not doing as well as the right-armers. It does help a little, but you still got to be as good as the rest, if not better” said Unadkat.

The Indian men and women’s team is currently quarantining in Mumbai and will leave for UK on June 2 for the three-month tour. The five-match Test series against England starts from August 4 after the WTC final.
