Jammu & Kashmir reportedly accused Baroda of tampering with the pitch during their ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match at Reliance Stadium. The incident occurred on Day 3 (Saturday, February 1), with Jammu & Kashmir alleging that the pitch was altered overnight to benefit the home team.
As per an ESPNcricinfo report, the visitors refused to bat on Day 3, causing a delay of nearly 1 hour and 25 minutes. The Baroda Cricket Association denied the allegations, attributing the change to dampness.
Jammu & Kashmir resumed their innings at 10:55 A.M. after an intervention from match referee Arjan Kripal Singh. To compensate for the lost time, play was extended by an hour. The visiting team accused Baroda of tampering with the pitch to secure an outright win in the final group stage match and qualify for the knockouts.
Meanwhile, Baroda needs to chase a target of 365 runs in the final innings to win the match. As of Day 4, they are 173/6 after 50 overs.
J&K Files Official Complaint with BCCI After 5-Wicket Victory Over Mumbai in Ranji Trophy 2024-25
Jammu & Kashmir claimed a five-wicket victory over a star-studded Mumbai side in the previous round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. After the win, the team filed an official complaint with the BCCI, citing poor umpiring standards.
Brig. Anil Gupta, administrator of the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association, confirmed that the board had raised concerns over the umpiring after two controversial decisions. In an interview with TOI, he stated:
“Yes, we have lodged an official complaint with the BCCI about the standard of umpiring in the match. We have pointed out a couple of decisions which went against the J&K team-Abid Mushtaq being given out lbw (off Mohit Avasthi) in the first innings, when the ball seemed to be have pitched outside the leg-stump, and Mumbai’s middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer being given not out despite having clearly edged the ball. Since I was present at the ground and watching the match, I was dismayed by some of the umpiring decisions, which were quite appalling.”
