Matthew Wade, Australia’s wicketkeeper-batter, is set to join the Joburg Super Kings (JSK) for the remainder of Cricket South Africa’s SA20 inaugural season.

The Joburg-based franchise has signed Wade as a replacement for West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph. The fast bowler will miss the rest of the tournament as he prepares for his country’s upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe.

On Tuesday, January 31, JSK announced Wade’s signing via a social media post. The following was written on Twitter:

“We have a new Super King at the 𝐖𝐀n𝐃𝐄rers. Say Yellove to Matthew Wade!”

Wade was most recently seen in action during the recently concluded Big Bash League (BBL 2023). The southpaw scored 307 runs in 12 games for the Hobart Hurricanes, including two half-centuries, for an average of 25.58. After Tim David, he was his team’s second-highest run-scorer. Given his track record as a finisher, the swashbuckler’s addition will strengthen JSK’s batting lineup even more.

JSK began their SA20 2023 campaign with a 16-run victory over Durban’s Super Giants in their season opener. However, in the two subsequent matches, they were defeated by the Paarl Royals and the MI Cape Town. The team bounced back with a six-run victory over the Pretoria Capitals.

The Super Kings are in good form right now, having won three games in a row. They currently sit fourth in the SA20 2023 points table, having won four of their seven games.

Faf du Plessis has been in superb form, scoring 277 runs in 13 matches at an average of 46.16. Gerald Coetzee is their leading wicket-taker so far, with 11 scalps in five appearances. JSK will be back in action on Friday, February 3rd when they face the Royals in the 27th match of the season.
