Joe Root has revealed the foremost reason why he decided not to register his name for IPL 2021. The England Test captain is currently at the peak of his prowess and several franchises would have bid for him if he was part of the IPL 2021 auction. Root is a proven match-winner in all formats of the game and would have succeeded even in the IPL as he is a brilliant player of spin.

The 30-year-old is currently focused on the Test series against India which his side leads 1-0. Now, Root has given away the reason for skipping the upcoming IPL season. England will be playing a lot of Test matches this year and because of the hectic schedule Root decided not to feature in IPL 2021.

Nevertheless, Joe Root is optimistic about taking part in next year’s IPL season. Several England players such as Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer will all be featuring in the cash-rich league that is likely to be played between April- May in India.

“With the Test cricket calendar being so tight, it didn’t feel right to register my name for IPL. Hopefully, next year I’ll be a part of it”, Joe Root said.

Meanwhile, Test cricket has always been Root’s favourite format and he wants himself to be in the right headspace for the upcoming international cricket reason. Plus the bio-secure bubble can be extremely taxing for a foreign player if he is playing non-stop cricket away from home.

England will be playing 3 more Test matches in India which are part of the ICC world Test championship final. Then in June England will host New Zealand in a 2 match Test series. Finally, later this year Root will be captaining England in the 5 Tests Ashes series in Australia which is always the pinnacle series for every England cricketer.
