Jofra Archer returned to best with his maiden five-wicket haul in the 3rd One-day international match played at Diamond Oval, Kimberly on 1 February 2023.

Archer played the first One-day international match at Blofemntion on 27 January and was expensive giving away 83 runs and picking up 1 wicket in 10 overs. He was rested in the 2nd One-day international match.

Archer was included in the playing XI and did a grand job with his bowling. He got rid of Rassie Van der Dussen caught at a backward point by Jason Roy. Aiden Markram and Klassen were going at a good pace as Archer struck one more time to dismiss Markram with a short delivery with a simple catch to Moeen Ali. He then produced another beauty getting rid of the dangerous David Miller leaving South Africa in trouble.

Wayne Parnell and Heinrich Klassen looked impressive with their partnership taking the game away from England. Archer got the breakthrough getting rid of Klassen and providing an easy catch to Ben Duckett. He rattled Wayne Parnell’s stumps to pick his maiden five-wicket in ODI cricket. Archer finished off the match by getting rid of Shamsi. It was a remarkable bowling effort as he ended with figures of 6 for 40 in 9.1 overs. England won the match by 59 runs and reduced the margin of defeat to 1-2.

Jofra Archer now has the third-best figures by an England bowler in ODI cricket after Reece Topley and Paul Collingwood. For his match-winning spell of 6 for 40, Archer was named the player of the match award.

His bowling effort augers well for the England team in upcoming months keeping with big tournaments like Ashes and World Cup 2023 coming up.

South African captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to field first. Jason Roy, Ben Duckett, and Harry Brooks went cheaply leaving visitors in trouble. Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan produced a magical partnership steadying the ship and then putting enough pressure on South African bowlers.

Buttler and Malan added 232 runs for the 4th wicket. Moeen Ali also contributed a quickfire 41 off 24 balls. Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, and Adil Rashid hit cameos to help England post 346 for 7 in 50 overs.
