Jos Buttler Clashes With Journalist Over England’s T20 World Cup 2024 Title Defense

England’s captain Jos Buttler had a tense exchange with a journalist before their T20 World Cup 2024 match in Barbados. This comes after England’s poor performance in the 2023 World Cup, where they were heavily defeated and failed to defend their title from the 2019 World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.

During a media session, Buttler was asked if the team aimed to defend their previous title. This question seemed to irritate him. Despite their recent series win against Pakistan and the return of star bowler Jofra Archer, the memory of their earlier failure still looms over the team as they prepare to face Scotland in their first game of the tournament.

“We’re not trying to defend anything. I have said lots of times, I don’t see us as defending champions. I am just focused on this tournament. I am really excited for it. The team is in a good spot and that is all I am looking to. No. I am not going to tell you the team am I? I am pretty settled with what we are trying to do as a team. I don’t need to sit here and tell you,” Buttler darted back at a journalist as per Inews.

Jos Buttler Urges England to Focus on Present Game, Dismisses Pitch Speculations

Jos Buttler emphasized that England is focused on playing the game itself, not getting ahead of themselves before it starts. Speaking about the Kensington Oval pitch in Barbados, which had recently hosted a close, low-scoring match between Namibia and Oman due to its slow nature.

Buttler dismissed any assumptions about the pitch’s behaviour as they prepared to face Scotland at the same venue.

“We are trying not to play the game before the game has been played. It’s important not to have too many preconceived ideas and assume the pitch will play in a certain way,” Buttler concluded.
