The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the prize money allocation for the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, hosted by the West Indies and the USA. The total prize money set aside for the tournament stands at a substantial $11.25 million. The team that emerges victorious will receive a whopping $2.45 million. The runners-up, who will be decided on June 29 in Bridgetown, Barbados, are set to take home at least $1.28 million.

The two teams that reach the semi-finals but do not progress further will each earn $787,500. For teams that do not make it past the first round, the ICC has allocated $382,500 each. Teams finishing in positions nine through twelve will receive $247,500 apiece, while those ranked between thirteenth and twentieth in the 20-team tournament will earn $225,000 each.

Additionally, the ICC has instituted a reward for match victories during the group stages, excluding knockout matches and the final. Every team will receive an extra $31,154 for each group stage match they win. ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice highlighted the substantial prize pool in a statement on the ICC’s official website, emphasizing the significance of this financial commitment in promoting and supporting the growth of cricket globally.

Record-Breaking T20 World Cup to Feature 20 Teams Across 9 Venues

The 55-match tournament will span 28 days and take place across nine venues in the West Indies and the USA, marking it as the largest T20 World Cup to date. A record 20 teams will compete, including debutants USA, Canada, and Uganda. This year’s format features 40 first-round matches, from which the top eight teams will advance to the Super 8s.

Four teams will then move on to the semi-finals, held in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana, culminating in the final in Barbados. This edition is notable for the debut of teams such as Namibia, the USA, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea in the main draw, highlighting the sport’s growing global reach and competitiveness.
