West Indies

In a thrilling encounter at the Providence Stadium in Guyana on Sunday (August 6), West Indies emerged victorious over India by a margin of 2 wickets in the second T20I of the five-match series. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India managed to post a total of 152/7, thanks to young talent Tilak Varma’s debut half-century in only his second international appearance.

West Indies faced early setbacks, but Nicholas Pooran’s aggressive innings (67 off 40) kept them in contention. Despite a dramatic batting collapse following Pooran’s dismissal, Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hosein guided the home team to victory. With this win, the Caribbean team now leads the series 2-0.

Akeal Hosein showcased his batting prowess with a commanding boundary, driving a full delivery outside the off stump down the ground. The ball sped away, leaving mid-off with no chance. Akeal celebrated in his unique “blocking out the noise” style. This triumph marks West Indies’ first back-to-back T20I victories against India.

Nicholas Pooran’s impressive performance stood out for West Indies, as he scored a brisk 67 runs off 40 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes. Hetmyer contributed 22 runs off 22 balls, while Captain Rovman Powell added 21 runs off 19 balls. Kyle Meyers chipped in with 15 runs, featuring 2 fours and a six before the team faced a trio of zero-run dismissals involving Brandon King, Jason Holder, and Shepherd.
