Veteran New Zealand batter Kane Williamson will have surgery on his hurt right knee and most likely will not play in the ODI World Cup.
Kane Williamson is no longer likely to be healthy and available for selection at this year’s ODI Cricket World Cup, according to the New Zealand Cricket Board’s standard rehabilitation timelines.
Williamson will have knee surgery in the upcoming three weeks. He emphasized that his primary attention will be on the operation and beginning his rehabilitation as well.
“Williamson was hurt while playing for the Gujarat Titans. After sustaining a knee injury in the IPL 2023, Kane Williamson is most likely going to miss the ODI Cricket World Cup.”
Williamson will have surgery on his injured right knee, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced on Thursday. Williamson, who was eliminated from the IPL following Gujarat Titans’ opening game, will have the procedure.
The scans show that on March 31, Williamson injured his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for Gujarat Titans against Chennai Super Kings. Within the next three weeks, he will likely have knee surgery.
“Williamson, who helped New Zealand place second in the 2019 World Cup, emphasized that he will concentrate on the operation and begin rehab as soon as possible.”
Naturally, it is disappointing to sustain such an injury, but my current priorities are undergoing the procedure and beginning my recovery.
It will take some time, but I will make every effort to return to the field as soon as I can.
“Williamson reaffirmed his commitment to working with teammate and head coach Gary Stead to get fit.”
Williamson was replaced by Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lankan white-ball captain, by the IPL 2023 champion Gujarat Titans. The Sri Lankan player joined GT for a base price of INR 50 lakh in order to play in his first IPL.
