Karun Nair produced a magical knock on the opening day of penultimate round matches for Northamptonshire against Surrey at Kennington Oval, London on 20th September 2023. Surrey captain Rory Burns won the toss and decided to field first.

Karun Nair looked impressive with his shot-making putting pressure on Surrey bowlers as Northamptonshire lost 6 wickets on the scoreboard. Nair looked impressive remaining not out on 51. Northamptonshire ended the first day at 171 for 6.

Starting the 2nd day, Karun Nair looked in sublime touch showing his class with an array of strokes and kept Surrey bowlers under pressure. Nair arrived with the team struggling at 51 for 2. It was a superb performance by the Karanakta batter completing his century off 184 deliveries with a ramp shot off Daniel Worrall.

Nair remained solid taking the team to 306 for 7 at lunch. He continued to show his class with an unbeaten 144 off 238 deliveries with 22 fours and 2 sixes taking Northamptonshire at 351 for 9 at the end of day 2.

Karun Nair joined the squad for the final three games of the County Season. He showed his class with a superb 78-run knock in the first innings against Warwickshire. Nair helped Northamptonshire to recover from 24 for 2 and post 250 on the board.

His performance could not help the side as they suffered their 8th defeat from 12 matches and are currently at the bottom of the points table in the Division One table. Nair has shown a tremendous batting display in the match against Surrey so far and would look to continue his performance if he gets a chance during the second innings.

Karun Nair will feature in the final match against Essex to be played at County Ground, Northampton from 26th September till 29th.

Karun Nair’s performance in international and domestic cricket

Karun Nair has been a consistent performer for Karnataka in domestic circuits including the SMAT tournament, Vijay Hazare, and Ranji Trophy tournament. He made his Ranji Debut in the 2013-2014 season and proved to backbone of lifting the Ranji Trophy title with three successive centuries including centuries in the quarterfinals and semi-finals. He will now play for Vidarbha in the 2023/24 domestic season.

He continued his superb run with a brilliant 328 runs in the finals against Tamil Nadu. He was included in the Indian team for 2015/16 after impressive performances during the domestic season for Karnataka. Nair was given a chance in the Test series against England. He became the second after Virender Sehwag to hit a triple century. He smashed an unbeaten 303 in the final Test match at Chennai.
