The Mumbai Indians franchise has announced their captains for their teams MI Cape Town in the SA20 league and MI Emirates in UAE’s International League T20. Former West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard will lead the Emirates team, whereas Afghanistan bowler Rashid Khan will lead the Cape Town team. The MI family now has three leaders in Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Rashid Khan.

Kieron Pollard has been part of the Mumbai franchise since 2010 and has taken up the position of the team’s batting coach in the IPL. He was initially signed by the franchise along with names like Dwayne Bravo and Nicholas Pooran. Given Pollard’s loyalty to the franchise, it was right to name him as the skipper of the team.

Rashid Khan was one of the five players that the team signed before the auction. Some would have expected a Proteas like Kagiso Rabada to be named captain of the team. This isn’t unfamiliar territory for Rashid Khan as he has captained his country and has the experience of playing all around the globe. He is a match-winner with both bat and ball.

The owner of the MI team Akash Ambani is confident that the two newly appointed captains will take forward the ideologies of the franchise forward and help achieve the MI spirit across the globe.
