KKR are now at the top of the IPL 2024 points table after a big win over LSG. Sunil Narine played a huge role in their victory, scoring 81 runs in just 39 balls and taking one wicket for 22 runs in four overs. Sunil Narine has been doing well in this IPL season.
On Sunday, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, his great performance helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to move to the top of the standings with a big 98-run win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Narine set the stage for KKR’s victory with his fast-paced 81 runs in the first innings, and he also bowled well, only giving away 22 runs in his four overs and taking one wicket to stop LSG from scoring too many runs. The game started with Narine and Philip Salt, KKR’s openers, putting on a strong 61-run partnership.
Narine played steadily at first while Salt hit lots of boundaries. Then, Narine picked up the pace and started scoring as fast as Salt. He hit three fours and a six in one over to show his dominance.
Narine and Salt kept up the momentum and reached their sixth fifty-run partnership. Salt got out after being caught behind, but Angkrish Raghuvanshi joined Narine and kept the runs coming. KKR scored 70 runs in the first six overs. Even after the PowerPlay, Narine continued to attack the bowlers, especially the spinners.
He hit a six when Krunal Pandya bowled a good ball, and he reached his fifty with a four against Ravi Bishnoi. Narine kept hitting boundaries and sixes, especially when the LSG pacers bowled full deliveries. He scored three sixes off Marcus Stoinis. But his innings ended when he mistimed a shot and got caught out.
After Narine’s dismissal, LSG’s bowlers tightened up, and their fielding improved, slowing down KKR’s scoring rate. But Ramandeep Singh’s quick 25 runs at the end helped KKR finish strongly, reaching a total of over 220 runs for the fifth time this season.
Pitch report: Slow, 190+ would be more than enough.
